Green house gasses insulate our atmosphere from the coldness of space, without them the temperature on earth would be -15 degrees. The green house effect was discovered by Fourier in 1827.
Carbon Dioxide (CO2 ) is the main green house gas. Records show that global temperature is closely linked to the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. Over the past 100 years the amount of carbon dioxide has increased and the global temperature is also increasing. Reducing the amount of insulating gasses we put into the atmosphere is key to reducing the impacts of climate change. The climate will still warm over the next 100 years but it will stop the warming spiraling out of control.

New - KS3 Technology!
Most energy comes from burning fossil fuels. This produces greenhouse gases which add to climate change. Designers need to think about the energy used in the production and use of products. The future of designing is in products that will benefit people and the planet.
The impact of food on climate change comes from the energy in processing, transporting and preparing it and the greenhouses gases given off by animals. The choices made by food technologists make a big difference to this impact.
The production of textiles requires land, energy and water. We need to use these resources efficiently when we design a textile product. Some textile products can help us reduce waste and save energy.
